Bush Holds Townhall Meetings, but Forgets to Invite the Town PDF Print E-mail

President Bush was in Colorado on Monday to host a townhall meeting to discuss his Social Security reform plan.  To the dismay of many taxpayers, whose tax dollars paid for the event, the town was not invited to the meeting.

“President Bush has a responsibility to clearly define his plan to the American public that is affected by any change to Social Security,” said Pat Waak  “It seems to be nothing more than another President Bush scare tactic that leaves Americans uneasy.”

Over the last two months there has been a dramatic increase in opposition to Bush’s proposal.  44 democrats, 5 Republicans and 1 Independent in the US Senate voted last week to oppose any Social Security reform that would require cuts in benefits or increase the debt.  According to Business Week if Bush’s privatization plan were implemented benefits would be cut by 30% for everyone.

“The reality is that two-thirds of Americans oppose President Bush’s proposal and that number increases the more he attempts to sell his plan,” said Waak “and that is probably why they did not want the town to participate in their meeting.”
