Denver, CO - Shawn O'Buckley announced Tuesday that he would be resigning as Treasurer of the Colorado Democratic Party. O'Buckley was first elected as Treasurer for the Colorado Democratic Party in 2002.
In a letter addressed to the Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party, Pat Waak, O'Buckley cited a recent job opportunity in New York as the basis for his resignation.
"It has been a difficult decision to reach, given my love of the (Democratic) party and my excitement for the years ahead," wrote O'Buckley in his letter of resignation.
O'Buckley was re-elected as Treasurer in March of 2005. At the time of his re-election campaign he was not aware of a potential job offer that would take him out of Colorado. O'Buckley was and will continue to be dedicated to serving the Democratic Party.
"I realize that Shawn made this decision with his family in mind," said Pat Waak. "I appreciate his service to the Democratic Party, and I wish him and his family the best of luck in New York."
The Executive Committee of the Colorado Democratic Party will select a new Treasurer to replace O'Buckley over the weekend. The Colorado Democratic Party will announce the new Treasurer Monday, May 16, 2005.
"I will remain in Denver working until the fall, and will of course, aid the new Treasurer when possible to ensure a smooth evolution," noted O'Buckley.
