Beauprez Finds Himself Targeted in the DeLay Scandal PDF Print E-mail

Recently accusations of unethical campaign practices by Majority Leader Tom DeLay have brought forth similar concerns about Congressman Bob Beauprez.

Congressman Bob Beauprez has received over $29,000 from Tom DeLay’s ARMPAC, known as Americans for a Republican Majority Political Action Committee. The House Ethics Committee found that DeLay used the ARMPAC to contribute funds to several congressional races across the country, wanting in return a yes vote on the Republican Medicare Bill that took place last year.

Congressman Bob Beauprez not only accepted the funds from DeLay for his past campaigns, but he also voted to weaken the ethics rules in Congress to protect DeLay.

"The people of Colorado want to see Republicans in Congress restore a sense of ethics in Washington," said Pat Waak, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party. "Beauprez should return the money and explain his involvement with the DeLay scandal."

It is clear that as the investigations into DeLay’s practices continue many Republicans may face similar scrutiny.

"While Democrats are leading the way to restore high ethical practices, Republicans continue to avoid the issue in hopes that it will simply disappear," said Waak. "I hope the Democrats will be successful in their attempts to protect the American public from this type of political practice."

It is now up to Beauprez to make a decision on whether or not he will return the funds he received from ARMPAC.
