Denver, CO –The Colorado Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak called on Senator Wayne Allard to support the Cantwell energy security amendment to move America towards energy independence.

"America needs a reliable and affordable energy supply," said Colorado Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak, "if Senator Allard is serious about national security and the safety and future of Coloradoans, he has to get serious about moving our country toward energy independence. I call on Senator Allard to support the Cantwell amendment so that our country and our people will never be held hostage to our dependence on foreign oil."

The Cantwell amendment puts forth a bold new goal of reducing our dependence on foreign oil by 40 percent in 20 years – a goal that will make America more secure, energize our economy and protect our environment. The amendment is being offered by Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA). Democrats believe being serious about national security means being serious about ending America's dependence on Middle Eastern oil.

"We need to act now to get more of our energy from right here at home," said Waak, "the Cantwell amendment will help America do exactly that."
