Senator Allard’s Comments are Completely Unacceptable PDF Print E-mail

Denver, CO - Senator Allard made unacceptable comments about the immigrant community in Weld County and Democratic Party Chair, Pat Waak is insisting that Senator Allard apologize for the inaccurate and inappropriate comments.

"Here is another example of Republican attitudes toward the Latino community," said Pat Waak. "These generalizations do great harm to efforts to unify the citizens of this state. Senator Allard should not only apologize but he should take some time to study the historical contributions immigrants have made to America."

When discussing pending immigration legislation, Senator Allard said, "The more illegal immigration you have, the more crime you have. I think that just makes common sense. When they come illegally, they are criminals."

Senator Allard went even further to say that illegal immigrants bring prostitution and drug trafficking with them.

"Senator Allard’s generalization that all illegal immigrants are all of bad character just shows how out of touch he is with that community," said Joelle Martinez, Communications Director for the Colorado Democratic Party. "His comments are a direct attack on the hard-working immigrant community."

Republican Congressmen Tom Tancredo, Bob Beaupreaz and now Senator Allard have all recently made comments that not only offend the Latino population in Colorado but manage to draw a racial divide on the issue of immigration policy.

"The Republican Party clearly has no interest in understanding and advancing the role of the Latino community in Colorado," said Waak. "While Republicans are on the attack, Democrats are focused on engaging the Latino community in all aspects of the political process."

Senator Allard along with fellow Republicans continue to demonstrate their insensitivity to issue of immigration. More importantly recent comments from Allard and Beauprez demonstrate the Republicans offensive attitude toward the immigrant community in Colorado.
