Dan Slater Gives the Gunny Bob Show a Dose of Democratic Reality PDF Print E-mail

April 14, 2005

Denver, CO. – Last night Dan Slater, First Vice Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party gave the Gunny Bob Show a dose of reality.

The Gunny Bob Show is a conservative talk radio show on KOA.  Last night the topic on the show was, “Liberal Hate, Violence and Intolerance”.  Bob Newman, a self proclaimed “Independent” voter and host of the show, attempted to paint Democrats as being violent and radical.

Colorado Republican Chair, Bob Martinez, opened the show by arguing that recent protests and comments by Democrats were evidence that Democrats were responding to recent election defeats.

Obviously Bob Martinez has forgotten that Democrats won in Colorado this last election cycle.  In fact, it seems that these ridiculous claims by Conservatives only highlight their fear that Democrats will be victorious again in 2006.

Dan Slater followed with a strong interview and made a clear stance that Democrats were not acting violent, but were merely exercising their right to free speech.

Bob Newman began to imply that the three individuals kicked out of the faux “town hall meeeting’ actually infringed on Bush’s right to free speech.

Slater quickly responded to this unfounded claim.

“I don’t think the President has to worry about that, he has the biggest soapbox in the world,” said Slater.  “It is incredible that you (Newman) are taking this event, where the rights of three people were violated simply on the basis of a bumper sticker and trying to turn it into an issue of violation of President Bush’s rights.”

Slater went on to explain that he is an attorney in Southern Colorado.  He represents several small towns outside of Denver.  He explained that if any mayor or leader in these small towns were to tell a resident to leave a town hall meeting on the basis of their beliefs or, worse yet, a bumper sticker on their car, there would be legal problems on their hands.

Dan Slater represented Democrats well on last nights radio show.  Republicans should be aware that Democrats are going to have their voices heard, even on conservative radio shows.  Furthermore, Democrats will be giving biased commentary a dose of Democratic reality.
