Republican Neglect Hurts Our Veterans and Military While Democrats Fight for Our Men and Women in Uniform

Colorado has a deep history of proud military service. Colorado is home to over 427,000 veterans. In addition Colorado has over 2,243 men and women fighting oversees. Now more than ever we must ensure that veterans and active duty men and women receive the benefits due to them because of their honorable service to our country.

Republicans continue to vote against bills that would improve services for the military. Beauprez and Musgrave both voted against a bill that would have added $30 million to veterans' health care. Musgrave opposed a bill that would have added $100 million for military health care.

Democrats are fighting for out troops and veterans. In 2005, Democrats fought to increase finding for the VA health care system and Democrats fought to end the disabled veterans' tax. Democrats value the importance of our nations' military and will continue to fight to protect their benefits.

Talking Points on the Supreme Court Vacancy

In light of the Supreme Court vacancy left by retiring Justice O'Connor, Democrats want to send a clear message to Coloradoans that we want a unified effort to find a new Justice that will uphold the Constitution and serve all Americans. It is clear that we need to have a fair process of appointment, in which Republicans work with Democrats to ensure that the strongest candidate is selected on their dedication to upholding the Constitution and ability to put aside their religious beliefs to rule fairly from the bench.

Bush Continues to Contradict Himself About the Connection Between Iraq and 9/11

During President Bush's speech at Fort Bragg on 6/28/05, Bush referenced the tragedies of 9/11 five times during his speech. Despite years of evidence that Iraq was not involved with the terrorist attack on September 11th, Bush continues to deceive Americans that there is a connection between the War in Iraq and 9/11. Bush has continued to flip flop on the connection between Iraq and 9/11. In 2003, Bush admitted no relationship between Iraq yet 9/11 and once again during his speech at Ft. Bragg he attempted to connect the two.

Bush Praised the Troops but He Is Not Supporting Them

Despite the rhetoric from Bush's Ft. Bragg speech about supporting our troops, Bush and fellow Republicans have continually voted against the interests of our country's veterans and troops. Bush sent our troops into war without the needed equipment and after two years troops are still waiting for the equipment. Republicans in Congress continue to vote against legislation that would increase benefits for veterans and active duty soldiers.

Senator Allard's Comments are Completely Unacceptable

Pat Waak, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party insisted that Senator Allard apologize for remarks he made during an interview with the Greeley Tribune. Senator Allard went too far in explaining the need for immigration reform.
