Denver, CO - On Wednesday, July 27, 2005 federal court threw out the final challenge to Colorado’s congressional redistricting map that was completed in 2002.
Republicans have long contested the Democratic backed map, which created the 7th Congressional District. Congressman Bob Beauprez currently holds the 7th Congressional District, but it is a seat Democrats are looking to win in 2006.
"Democrats are pleased with yesterday’s opinion by the federal courts," said Pat Waak, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party. "We knew in 2002 and we know now that all legal action was taken to ensure the maps were drawn up with fairness."
"It is ridiculous that Republicans continue to argue the boundaries of the redistricting map," said Pat Waak. "Despite all their appeals the courts have consistently upheld that the maps are legal."
Republicans are now threatening to take their appeal to the US Supreme Court.
"While the Republicans continue to contest the map, Democrats are looking forward to the future and concentrating on winning elections," said Waak.
