U.S. Troop Fatalities Reach 2,008 in Iraq
Denver, CO - Today Pat Waak, Colorado State Party Chair, issued the following statement marking the tragic news of the 2,008th American fatality in Iraq:
"Last week the number of American fatalities in Iraq reached 2,000, but President Bush missed the opportunity to mark this tragedy and outline his strategy for success in Iraq.
"Today, the nation and Coloradoans grieve as the 2,008th American soldier died in the war. We honor and commend the service and commitment of our nation's troops as well as the sacrifices made by their families and loved ones. Twenty-eight Coloradoans are among those brave soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
"Coloradoans believe that America can do better, and that we shouldn't send our soldiers to war without a clear plan for victory or without the proper equipment and resources. This is why Democrats are calling on Bush to honor the memory and sacrifices of our soldiers by presenting a clear plan for victory and success in Iraq.
"As Coloradoans note this tragic loss we believe President Bush needs to outline a plan for victory which addresses Iraqi military strength, regional stability, and the eventual withdrawal of U.S. troops."
