O'Donnell, an opponent of medicine reimportation, has yet to clarify if
he stands with his party on the GOP prescription drug special interest giveaway
bill
Denver, CO - Pat Waak, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party, today issued
the following statement concerning Republican Congressional candidate Rick O'Donnell
and his position on seniors' Medicare benefits:
"Across the state of Colorado, health care is an issue of great concern.
No less so is it a huge issue in Congressional District 7. As seniors' complaints
about the new Medicare prescription drug plan continue to pile up across the
country, Colorado seniors and their families deserve to know if Rick O'Donnell
would support the sham GOP Medicare prescription drug bill if he were elected
to Congress.
"In the past, O'Donnell has stood against allowing seniors access to cheaper
medicines. As head of Colorado's Department of Regulatory Agencies in 2003,
O'Donnell did his part to deny Coloradans access to imported Canadian drugs
by preventing Canadian pharmacies from being licensed and regulated in Colorado.
He put the interests of the pharmaceutical conglomerates first then; would he
put the interests of Colorado seniors first now?
The Republican prescription drug bill gives away billions of dollars in profits
to pharmaceutical and insurance companies while leaving seniors with less coverage
and more expensive medicines. Coloradans who have worked hard for their money
deserve to know: Will Rick O'Donnell work hard for them?"
