Denver, Colorado - Colorado Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak today said that former House Republican Leader Tom DeLay's decision to forgo his reelection campaign
should serve as a wake-up call for Colorado Republican Congressional Members.
Pat Waak said Colorado voters would not forget that Colorado Representatives
Marilyn Musgrave, Tom Tancredo and Bob Beauprez accepted $30,000, $28,439, and
$30,000, respectively, in tainted money from Tom DeLay and his political action
committees, and that Representatives Marilyn Musgrave, Tom Tancredo and Bob
Beauprez voted with DeLay over 90 percent of the time.
"Apparently, Tom DeLay read the tea leaves and finally realized that the
American people have had enough of the Republican culture of corruption,"
said Colorado Democratic Party Chair, Pat Waak. "From DeLay to Duke Cunningham,
Scooter Libby to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Washington is awash in the
Republican culture of corruption, cronyism and incompetence, and Representatives
Marilyn Musgrave, Tom Tancredo and Bob Beauprez are in it up to their elbows.
"Tom DeLay's downfall should cause Representatives Marilyn Musgrave and
Tom Tancredo to reassess their own prospects for reelection this November. And Representative
Bob Beauprez should not think he can bring his way of doing business to the
state race for governor. The people of Colorado want change, not more of the
same culture of corruption. That is why Colorado Democrats are offering the
voters real reforms that will provide Americans the honest leadership and open
government they deserve.
"Democrats are committed to putting our government back to work fighting
to provide real security for the American. We are offering voters a bold agenda
for keeping our nation safe and secure, creating good jobs, strengthening public
education, promoting retirement security, creating a health care system that
works for everyone, and making America energy independent."
