Colorado Democratic Party Week In Review

It's been a busy week here at the Colorado Democratic Party Headquarters as we gear up for Election Day 2006.

Updates

Billy Compton, Political Director for the Party, has been attending the Denver Election Commission meetings in preparation for the Primary and General elections. In addition, he represented the Colorado Democratic Party at the lot-drawing for candidate placement on the general election ballot at the Secretary of State's Office. The Republican Party had no representative there so the CDP was the only political party represented at the drawing.

Billy is working with our Regional Coordinators on developing county GOTV plans to complement State Plan Field Plan. If that weren't enough, he's working with the DNC on a training program for county party representatives on GOTV and messaging. And if you're confused about the ins-and outs of Campaign and Political Finance Amendment 27, he's also developing a basic Do's and Don'ts primer for county parties.

In the News

Today's Denver Post had a great editorial criticizing Republican CD 7 candidate Rick O'Donnell for his idea to abolish Social Security. Ricky has recently said he's changed his views on the subject but the Post isn't exactly buying it.

Upcoming Events

-Counting down to Election Day!
This weekend, from Durango to Erie, Colorado Democrats will join the nationwide "Democratic Reunion" celebration to mark 100 days until the November election. In communities large and small across the state, we'll use the event to continue organizing and mobilizing in an effort to ensure victories this November. There are 19 events organized across the state – for information on local events log on to www.dnc.org and click on Democratic Reunion.

-Faith, Politics and Democratic Values
Good news! Our conference on "Reframing Faith And Politics"
is quickly filling up. So far, we've received dozens of RSVPs from people across the state. There's still time to join us. The day will include Speakers, Panel Discussions and, Breakout Sessions and will be held
August 5, 2006 from 10am - 4pm at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver.

Around the State

There are plenty of great activities going on across the state. Here are just a few:

-The Huerfano County Democrats are taking part in Fort Francisco Days on Saturday July 29th. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10:00, then there's a Parade, booths all day, historical re-enactments, an auction in afternoon, and plenty of food. Contact Joan Breternitz at bjbret@peoplepc.com for info.

-Kit Carson County Democrats will take part in the Kit Carson County Fair, August 3rd. The days starts with a free barbecue at 11:00am until about 12:30: then an afternoon rodeo featuring local residents. The fun wraps up by 5:00. We're told it's a big local crowd for anyone wishing to put themselves "out there"-freebies or giveaways are always a hit. Contact Judy Arends at judyarends@hotmail.com with any questions.

As always, we'd like to thank our dedicated volunteers who come by each day to help our Party. We can't do this without you.
