Colorado Democratic Party Encourages All Voters to Vote Absentee in Light of Revelations that Voting Machines Were Certified in Violation of State Requirements

Gigi Dennis's actions could endanger fair elections in November

Denver - Today it was revealed that Colorado Secretary of State Gigi Dennis certified voting machines for the November election which do not meet state requirements. John Gardner, the official appointed by Dennis to oversee new voting machines, also admitted that he lacked the expertise required by statute to perform his job.

Democratic State Party Chair Pat Waak issued the following statement:

"The conduct of the Secretary of State's office in certifying voting machines that do not meet state standards is absolutely appalling. This is a serious violation of state law and endangers our ability to have a fair election in November.

"Secretary Dennis's actions are both incompetent and dangerous. Her decisions could disenfranchise countless numbers of voters and cause massive problems on election day. I renew my call on Gigi Dennis to resign. She is clearly not fit to hold this position of public trust.

"Unfortunately, the consequences of Secretary Dennis's actions extend well beyond mere incompetence in office. The grim reality of these revelations is plain: these voting machines may not be reliable on election day. I strongly encourage all voters to vote by absentee ballot or to vote early. This is the safest way to ensure that your vote will be counted."
