Party lodges complaint against TV stations that air ad
DENVER – Today, the Colorado Democratic Party lodged a complaint with
five television stations for Musgrave’s congressional campaign ad violating
the Communications Act of 1934.
The complaint outlines accusations regarding Musgrave’s failure to follow
FCC rules on disclosure regarding who paid for the ad.
Campaigns found to be in violation of the rule are denied the discounted "political"
ad rate that stations offer to candidates.
If the stations fail to comply with the FCC laws and do not charge Marilyn
Musgrave the higher "non-political" ad rate for the duration of the
campaign, according to the complaint, they may be violating FEC regulations
against corporate contributions to federal candidates.
Colorado Democratic Party Pat Waak said she expected stations to comply with
the law.
"This latest incident clearly demonstrates how Marilyn Musgrave has complete
disregard for the rule of law," said Waak. "Musgrave is desperate
and she knows change is in the air this election year. Not only does Musgrave
violate FCC rules, but she demonstrates that she’s willing to grasp at
straws to stay afloat in this race."
