New Democratic Congress Delivers on Ethics Reform PDF Print E-mail

Colorado Democratic Party Congratulates Colorado's New Democrats in Congress

Washington, DC-Yesterday, Colorado Democrats acted swiftly to clean up the culture of corruption in Washington by passing sweeping ethics reforms through the House by a nearly unanimous vote. These reforms will clean up Congress by banning lobbyists' gifts like paid trips and plane rides. Today, Democrats will continue to work hard to pass the American people's agenda, ushering through a "Pay-as-you-go" rule which will help balance the budget and eliminate record deficits that Republicans made their trademark.

"During last year's elections, Democrats pledged to bring real change to Congress so our government can finally put the priorities of the American people first," said Pat Waak, Colorado Democratic Party Chair. "Democrats are already fulfilling their promise to clean up the culture of corruption by passing real ethics reform and implementing tough measures to balance the federal budget.

"Proving that voters made the right choice in electing a Democratic Congress, Colorado Representatives Diana DeGette, Mark Udall, John Salazar and Ed Perlmutter are already making a difference by getting to work on the business of the people. Democrats are proving that we can work in a bipartisan manner to accomplish an agenda supported by Coloradans and all Americans."

"Democrats will continue this positive momentum by making America more secure by implementing the 9/11 Commission recommendations, increasing the minimum wage, making college more affordable by cutting interest rates on student loans, allowing Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices, starting America on the path to energy independence, and expanding stem cell research."
