Senator Veiga Discusses Bill To Protect Homeowners from Mortgage Fraud PDF Print E-mail

Real estate foreclosures are every home owner's problem

DENVER - Today, Senator Jennifer Veiga (DD-Denver) spoke about the epidemic of real estate foreclosures in Colorado, and the dishonest real estate practices that make the situation worse.

Senator Veiga's proposal is Senate Bill 85, which will help take predatory lenders out of the business of real estate. SB 85 will require that lenders maintain stricter and more transparent standards for conducting business. This includes mandatory background checks for state lenders. It will also enforce stricter penalties for falsifying home appraisals, a practice that can cost a homeowner thousands.

In her commentary, Senator Veiga said this bill is necessary because it not only combats unscrupulous real estate practices, but it protects the integrity of honest real estate brokers throughout the state.
