Denver - The Colorado Democratic Party (CDP) today announced the approval of
its Delegate Selection Plan for the 2008 National Democratic Convention, to
be held in Denver next year. After a public comment period, the plan was formally
approved by the party's State Executive Committee on Sunday. The plan will now
be transmitted to the Democratic National Committee.
"We are committed to sending to the convention a delegation which reflects
the diversity of the Democratic party in Colorado," said CDP Chair Pat
Waak. "In 2004 Colorado's national convention delegation was the most diverse
of all state delegations," said Waak. "We are confident that our delegation
will again embody the full spectrum of opinions and experiences of Colorado
Democrats. We think Democrats' ability to represent diverse constituencies makes
us strong."
Colorado will have 70 delegates to the national convention, including DNC members
and delegates who will be elected from each Congressional District and at the
state convention. 36 delegates will be elected at the Congressional level and
12 at the state level; a total of 9 alternates will also be elected. Delegate
qualification forms and additional information will be available soon from the
CDP via its website, www.coloradodems.org
