Congressman Udall Files For 2008 Senate
Run
Today, Congressman Mark Udall filed papers to form a new Senate election
committee with the Secretary of the United States Senate.
Udall also reported $1,537,686 million to the Federal Election Commission
(FEC) in his Congressional campaign account, including $334,882 raised in
the last quarter.
The entire $1.5 million is transferable to his Senate committee, "Udall for
Colorado."
"I have been deeply honored to represent the people of Colorado’s Second Congressional
District," said Udall. "I will continue to work hard to represent my district,
and I view the upcoming Senate race as an opportunity to expand my strong
commitment to public service on behalf of all the people of Colorado."
"I intend to run a campaign that breaks the old mold of bitter and partisan
politics, in favor of one that is about bringing Coloradans together, "said
Udall. "Our country is facing deep crises at home and abroad – we must find
a way to successfully end the war in Iraq and mount an effective strategy
against terrorism, and we must build a safer, stronger and more prosperous
America. We can only meet these challenges by working in new ways that reach
across old partisan divides, and elevate our public debates. That is what
I have always strived for in my political life, and it is my intention to
build a campaign organization that matches the best expectations of Coloradans."

Howard Dean Comes to Denver To Launch Convention
On Thursday, the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee came to speak to a crowd of over 600 people in the Wells Fargo Theater Atrium of the Convention Center. Standing with Elbra Wedgeworth, President of the Host Committee for the 2008 DNC Convention and Mayor John Hickenlooper, Gov. Dean talked about the importance of the west to electing the next Democratic President of the United States.
In addition to kicking off the convention effort, Dean introduced the staff who will actually be running the convention. Leah Daughtry will serve as the CEO. The 2008 convention will be the fourth she has worked on so she brings a wealth of experience. Peggy Cusack serves as Chief of Staff. Susana Carbajal is the General Counsel. Jenni Engebretsen is the Deputy CEO for Public Affairs. Colorado's own Skye Gallegos is the Deputy CEO for Intergovernmental Relations. Cameron Moody is the Deputy CEO for Operations and Jim McMullen is the Deputy CEO for Administration and Finance. The group will be in Denver by July and beginning the yearlong process of getting everything in place.
At least 7,000 volunteers will be needed for the convention next year. To sign up to volunteer:

Aaron Harber Taping
Aaron Harber taped a number of interesting segments this past week. Check out his website for scheduling. Rep. Michael Garcia was one of the House members for the program on the legislature. Sen. Ken Gordon taped one for the Senate. A general political landscape segment with the state party chairs turned into a lively discussion on everything from legislative issues to who will run in 2008. This segment should be airing on April 27, 2007.

Project New West
Bill Compton and Pat Waak attended a briefing by Project New West in Phoenix.
The Project is commissioning focus groups and polls throughout the intermountain
west to understand public attitudes, especially of independent and unaffiliated
voters. Much of the information will be provided to the presidential candidates
so that they understand the Western issues. However, the information is really
important to all of us for the purposes of messaging. CDP will be looking at
ways to be part of the project so we can access this important data.
