CDP Chair Pat Waak Calls on Schaffer PDF Print E-mail

Denver - Today Pat Waak, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party called on "off again, on again" Republican Senate Candidate Bob Schaffer to state his position on the proposed Piñon Canyon training area in southeastern Colorado.

At the core of the Piñon Canyon issue is the Army’s attempt to annex 414,000 acres to expand a training facility, which includes both public and private lands.

Waak said, "Both ways Bob Schaffer apparently wants to represent Colorado in the United States Capitol without ever taking a position on an issue that is at the heart of southeastern Coloradan’s way of life." Schaffer has refused to comment in any detail on his position on Piñon Canyon.

An amendment supported by Colorado Democratic leaders including Representatives Mark Udall and John Salazar recently passed by the house banned funding for the Army expansion.

Through a spokesperson Schaffer has declined to offer his position on Piñon Canyon "essentially leaving it to which ever the way the wind blows," said Waak.
