Colorado Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak calls on sometime Senate Candidate Bob
Schaffer to explain his assertion that Senate Leadership is "hoping America
loses" (the war).
Denver - Pat Waak, Democratic Party Chair today denounced sometime Senate Candidate
Bob Schaffer's remark's suggesting that the Senate leadership is advocating
the loss of the war in Iraq.
Earlier today in a radio interview on KFKA Radio's "Amy Oliver Show,"
Bob Shaffer said, "What they (Senate Leadership) are effectively accomplishing
is a deliberate loss and a surrender in Iraq for the sake of their political
advantage at election time in 2008. I think they're hoping America loses."
Waak said "I would remind Bob that he was a cheerleader for this Administration's
decision to go to war in the first place. Never once as a congressman did Bob
Schaffer question this Administration's plan or policies, and for him now to
question the patriotism of democrats is deplorable." Waak continued, "Bob's
attempt to switch blame on to the Senate leadership is out of touch with the
growing consensus of most Americans that the Bush Administration's policies
are failing in Iraq."
Waak, reflecting on the fact that Schaffer would not take a position the Piñon
Canyon controversy, said, "Bob appears to be out of touch with issues both
here and abroad."
