Why Is Bob Schaffer Ducking Tough Issues? PDF Print E-mail

Denver, CO - Colorado Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak questioned U.S. Senate Candidate Bob Schaffer's honesty and candor following comments released in today's Denver Post.

According to the Denver Post, Schaffer explained his unwillingness to discuss critical issues by stating, "I am starting my campaign with my ears, not my mouth."

"Not good enough," said Waak. "While Schaffer's public appearances have been cut to a minimum to avoid being linked to the failed policies of the Bush Administration, privately Bob continues to harbor extreme views on education and health care."

In 2006 Schaffer joined fellow Republican extremists as a member of the Republican Study Committee of Colorado. The Republican Study Committee recently issued a news release applauding the President's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), thereby denying health care coverage to over 60,000 Colorado Children.

Waak said, "While Bob continues to duck questions from the public and media, the majority of the U.S. Congress supported this SCHIP legislation, in addition to 43 Democratic and Republicans Governors who also endorsed this vital program."
