Denver, CO - Today's Denver Post reported that the Colorado Republican Party
has once again declined to recognize U.S. Senate primary candidate Wayne Wolf
as a "credible" candidate.
Democratic Party Chair Pat Waak said, "Wayne Wolf is the only Republican
Senate candidate willing to discuss issues. It's appalling that the supposed
'defacto nominee' Bob Schaffer has refused to discuss any issues important to
Colorado."
Schaffer, an oil and gas industry executive has refused to take a position
on the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), a bipartisan piece
of legislation currently awaiting Presidential action after a similar version
was vetoed earlier this year. Schaffer has been unwilling to take a position
on Pinon Canyon, a proposed Army base expansion in southeastern Colorado, or
the proposed drilling on atop the Roan Plateau in western Colorado among others.
Waak said , "While endorsing Bob Schaffer as the "defacto nominee"
Republican officials have said they will not endorse the incumbent Rep. Doug
Lamborn who also is facing a primary challenge in Colorado's 5th Congressional
District. Apparently the Republicans big tent got a little smaller."
