With Gas Prices Hitting Record Highs, Coloradans Can’t Afford Big Oil Bob Schaffer |

DENVER – Gas prices have hit a new record high this week – averaging
$3.51 per gallon across the country for regular unleaded – beating the
inflation-adjusted record of $3.41 set in March 1981. With the economy
sagging, homes going into foreclosure, and the cost of food and gas
increasing, Colorado families cannot afford Big Oil Bob Schaffer in the
Senate.
Big Oil Bob has spent his political career standing up for special
interests like Big Oil and not the interests of Coloradans. After
voting for Big Oil time and time again – including FOR $28 million
dollars in tax breaks for Big Oil and AGAINST investments in renewable
energy – Schaffer left Congress for a Big Oil job with a six-figure
Big-Oil paycheck. Colorado families cannot look to Schaffer for relief
at the gas pump, or the leadership to invest in a renewable energy
economy that will help to sustain Colorado and reduce the cost of gas.
On average, Coloradans are paying $3.45 per gallon of gas, with prices
reaching as high as $3.79 per gallon in the state. That’s 27 cents more
than last month, and an astounding 61 cents more than last year. The
Rocky Mountain News reported last week that experts warn Colorado gas
prices are likely to hit $4 per gallon before this summer. Coloradans
need leadership that will bring relief – common sense solutions, not
more tax breaks for Big Oil. [http://www.fuelgaugereport.com; Rocky

"With gas prices hitting record highs and still climbing, Coloradans
are looking for leaders that will help ease the burden at the gas pump,
not vote to give tax breaks to oil companies and then cash in with a
six-figure paycheck," said Colorado Democratic Party Chairwoman Pat
Waak. "Colorado families can't afford another oil industry crony like
Bob Schaffer, supporting tax breaks for his buddies that are seeing
record-breaking profits while the rest of us pay record-breaking prices
for gas."
