Colorado Democratic Party's Latino Initiative Decries Rep. Doug Bruce's Remarks |

Denver, Colorado - The Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party's Latino Initiative and a member of the Democratic National Committee, Mannie Rodriguez, today expressed outrage at remarks by Rep. Douglas Bruce.
"On behalf of the Colorado Democratic Latino Initiative, I would like to demand that the Colorado Republican Party ask Colorado State Representative Douglas Bruce to step down from his position as a State Representative of Colorado," said Rodriguez.
"The Statement from Rep. Douglas Bruce comes on the day that his Republican President is meeting with the President of Mexico. To call the people of Mexico that come to work here, " ILLITERATE PEASANTS" is an insult to the people of Mexico (our neighbors).
"When these same people were called on to fight wars for the United States, were they illiterate peasants then? When workers were needed to help the US when we were at War, were they illiterate peasants?
"People from Mexico and surrounding other countries have been called on to help the U.S. countless times and now in the 21st century to call those who are our neighbors "Illiterate Peasants" is a display of what this country has become under the regime of the Republican Party.
"Regardless of the turmoil this country is experiencing because of our Immigration Laws, we should not display negativism towards all people that were not born in the U.S.
" Most Latinos in Colorado have history of our Father, Grandfathers, Great, Great, Grandfathers, who have been loyal to this land, fighting in every war west of the Mississippi dating back centuries, and will always fight to protect our Country. Some of these Latinos came when America was building a Country. What were they called then?"
