Are Colorado Republicans to the Right of *Trump* on Masks?!
Denver, CO — It seems that in the Trump White House, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
In addition to his blatant xenophobia that has reportedly fueled a rise in anti-Asian American racism and violence, Donald Trump tweeted something that a number of Colorado Republicans might find hard to hear: “It is Patriotic to wear a face mask”.
Given that Trump has finally come around to wearing a mask (after months of ignoring health experts and far behind the leadership of Governor Polis and Colorado Democrats on this issue), here’s a few questions we have:
- Does endangered State House Minority Leader Pat Neville still plan to file a frivolous lawsuit against Governor Polis’s order on mask wearing? An order that the Denver Post editorial board called “the right thing to do”.
- Will the Republican-led Douglas County Board of Commissioners continue their foolish withdrawal from Tri-County Health over a mask mandate?
- Does Lauren Boebert still think having to wear a mask is “attacking our personal liberties”? The Pueblo Chieftain editorial board called this claim “absurd” in their editorial praising Polis’ order. Given Boebert’s stomach-churning record on public health, we imagine her answer is “Yes.”
CDP Communications Director David Pourshoushtari:
“It speaks volumes about Colorado Republican leaders if even they are to the right of Donald Trump when it comes to wearing a mask. Colorado voters are paying very close attention to what their elected leaders do in the midst of this pandemic, and they won’t take kindly to candidates and elected officials risking public health for cheap political points. To paraphrase what Governor Polis has said — if you’re a supporter of freedom, wear a damn mask.”
