As Trump Lies About Vote-By-Mail, Gardner Joins GOP Opposition to Universal At-Home Voting
Gardner Opposes Expanding Vote-By-Mail—like Colorado’s Model Program—Nationally Amid Pandemic
Denver, CO – While President Trump continues to spew false and unsubstantiated claims that were fact-checked by Twitter on the safety and accuracy of voting-by-mail, Senator Cory Gardner refuses to stand up for Colorado’s safe vote-by-mail system and continues his steadfast opposition to expanding voting-by-mail nationwide.
As Colorado’s “experience shows that vote by mail can be at least as secure as in-person voting while increasing turnout” and the coronavirus pandemic forces people to stay in their homes, states across the country are looking to model Colorado’s voting-by-mail program — but Gardner opposes taking action in Congress and has given multiple interviews opposing universal vote by mail efforts.
Colorado Democratic Party Spokesperson Eli Rosen:
“No one should have to choose between their health and their right to vote. We should be finding ways to expand access to the ballot box that keep us safe during a public health crisis. Unfortunately, the President is spewing false and dangerous narratives about voting-by-mail—a system that Colorado has proven to be safe and increase voter turnout—all while Senator Gardner stands willfully by Trump.”
