BREAKING: Gardner Grasps for Cover While Refusing to Stand Up to Trump on DREAMers
Gardner Has Voted to Gut DACA, Was Silent as Trump Ended Program
Denver, CO – While the Supreme Court ruled to protect our DREAMers, Senator Cory Gardner has voted repeatedly to gut the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and refused to stand up to President Trump’s reckless decision to end it, risking deportation protections for hundreds of thousands of DREAMers — including 15,000 in Colorado. Gardner has refused to defend his abysmal record and has even refused to meet with immigration activists and “kicked [immigrant] community leaders out of public meetings.”
In another stunning move to save his flailing reelection campaign, Gardner has flipped his stance on the House-passed Dream and Promise Act now that it’s politically convenient:
Gardner’s spotty record also includes denouncing a bipartisan 2013 comprehensive immigration reform bill as “amnesty for illegal immigrants” and saying he “would not vote for it,” despite the bill passing the U.S. Senate with 68 votes.
Colorado Democratic Party Vice Chair of Outreach Xochitl Gaytan:
“While Senator Gardner works to save face on yet another issue amid his uphill reelection campaign, he cannot run from his record of voting numerous times to gut DACA and refusing to stand up to the president’s reckless push to end deportation protections for 15,000 Colorado DREAMers. Coloradans need a fighter for our DREAMers all the time, not just when it is politically convenient.”
