Gardner Laughs Off Mattis’ Critique of Trump’s Dangerous Response Toward Peaceful Protesters
Gardner “Didn’t Directly Answer the Question…. When Asked If He Was Comfortable With What Happened Near the White House”
Denver, CO – In an interview in his right-wing talk radio “safe space” this morning, Senator Cory Gardner laughed off former Secretary of Defense General Jim Mattis’ scathing rebuke of President Trump’s effort to divide Americans and dangerous response to peaceful protesters, brushing it off as a “personality conflict” between Mattis and Trump. While General Mattis condemned the teargassing of protesters for Trump’s photo-op as “an abuse of executive authority,” No Comment Cory “didn’t directly answer the question…when asked if he was comfortable with what happened near the White House.”
Mattis joined a chorus of military leaders, lawmakers of both parties, and religious leaders who have condemned Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric and actions toward peaceful protesters, but Gardner and Senate Republicans have “shrug[ged] off” the shocking rebuke from the president’s former Secretary of Defense.
Colorado Democratic Party spokesperson Eli Rosen:
“Coloradans appreciate General Mattis’ courage to vehemently condemn President Trump’s dangerous and divisive response to people exercising their constitutional rights. Unfortunately, Senator Gardner continues to be a lapdog to Trump and refuses to hold the president accountable for his anti-democratic rhetoric and dangerous actions. This is no laughing matter”
