SHOT/ CHASER: Gardner Used LWCF to Greenwash Abysmal Enivro Record, Now to Dodge Questions About Trump
LIME: Gardner Used LWCF for Political Cover After Caving to McConnell
SHOT: We already knew that Senator Cory Gardner would greenwash his record on the environment and public lands record, but now the New York Times reports that Gardner’s party boss Mitch McConnell has “commandeered a top priority of [Democrats] to benefit his endangered members” to “hold on to his position as majority leader after November’s elections.”
LIME: After caving to his party bosses last month, Gardner claimed that he got a win on LWCF to save face — but the Senate had already agreed to take it up and Gardner didn’t actually get anything after making a show of threatening to block the Senate from going on recess before taking up additional pandemic relief.
While Gardner was happy to grandstand and act as if he would block Senate recess over pandemic relief funding, now he won’t even talk about the next phase of pandemic relief.
“Senator Cory Gardner is using our great outdoors as an election-year political football to cover up his abysmal environmental record and to dodge questions about President Trump, whom he’s endorsed for reelection. Coloradans deserve an independent senator who stands up for public lands all the time, not just when it’s politically convenient.”
