TODAY: With Gardner’s Backing, GOP to Submit Brief Asking SCOTUS to Overturn ACA
Gardner’s Voted At Least 13 Times to Repeal or Gut ACA, Supports the Lawsuit, & Claims ACA is “Unconstitutional”
Denver, CO – Today, with the support of Senator Cory Gardner, the Trump Administration and the GOP will submit briefs recklessly urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which would rip care away from an estimated 470,000 Coloradans, endanger protections for 2.4 million Coloradans with pre-existing conditions, and undermine the nation’s public health response to coronavirus.
Gardner says he believes the ACA is “unconstitutional” and has done nothing to stand up to the Trump-backed lawsuit. That’s unsurprising given Gardner’s record of voting at least 13 times to repeal, gut, or defund the ACA. When Congress failed to repeal the health care law three years ago, Gardner despaired that “donors are furious…we haven’t kept our promise” and helped lead efforts to pass the GOP tax scam, which sparked the current legal challenge.
A new report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities shows that not only would repealing the ACA negatively impact communities of color, but it would also give a massive tax cut to “the highest-income Americans and certain corporations.”
Colorado Democratic Party Spokesperson Eli Rosen:
“Senator Gardner has spent his career playing politics with Coloradans’ health care at the behest of President Trump and Mitch McConnell. Even in the middle of a global pandemic, Senator Gardner is still relentlessly crusading to repeal this pivotal health care law, jeopardizing protections for people with pre-existing conditions and coverage for hundreds of thousands of Coloradans.”
