STATE PARTY COMMITTEES

State Central Committee (SCC)

The State Central Committee is the governing body of the Colorado Democratic Party.

It’s composed of members from across the state:

  • All county chairs and first vice-chairs

  • The chairs and first vice-chairs from each Congressional district organization

  • Bonus members from larger counties

  • State party officers (elected at the state party reorg)

  • DNC members from Colorado (elected to four-year terms in presidential years)

  • State-level elected Democrats (governor, US senators and reps, state reps and senators, etc.)

  • Additional appointees by the state party chair to ensure that the state central committee maintains gender equity

The SCC’s responsibilities include:

  • Meeting at least once per year, called by the CDP chair

  • Approval of the delegate selection plan for local and state assemblies and conventions

  • Approval of updates to state party bylaws and policies

  • Voting on endorsements of ballot initiatives

  • Review of any controversy committees (disciplinary actions) created to solve intra-party disputes

State Executive Committee (SEC)

The State Executive Committee is a subcommittee of the State Central Committee

Its members include:

  • CDP officers

  • DNC members

  • The chair and first vice-chair of each Congressional district 

  • The chair, first vice-chair, and bonus members from larger counties; smaller counties choose a single regional member

  • A member from each SCC initiative and charter organization

  • A small number of at-large voting members

The SEC’s responsibilities include:

  • Advising and assisting the Chair as necessary

  • Coordinating activities between state and county organizations

  • Approving the CDP budget each December, prior to the new fiscal year
