50 Days Out, Joe O’Dea Wrong for Colorado
Republican Senate candidate Joe O’Dea is trying to mislead Coloradans about his record in order to get elected. However, O’Dea is clearly out of step with the majority of Colorado voters on abortion, standing with Trump, Mitch McConnell, and MAGA Republicans, climate and public lands, guns, and Medicare and Social Security.
Abortion:
Wants to go to the Senate to bring "balance to women’s rights.”
Voted yes on a 22-week abortion ban with no exceptions for rape and incest and said he “didn't look at all the nuances”
Said he supports a nationwide ban on abortion.
Called himself “pro-life.”
Opposes Colorado’s law that guarantees the right to choose and called it “reckless.”
Would’ve voted to confirm all of the Supreme Court Justices nominated by Trump and George W. Bush, the majority of whom overturned Roe v. Wade.
Standing with Trump, Mitch McConnell, and MAGA Republicans:
Would vote for Trump in 2024 if he is the Republican nominee.
Called the Mar-a-Lago investigation a “political stunt.”
Supports finishing Trump’s border wall.
Said Trump is not responsible for the insurrection on Jan. 6th.
Praised McConnell and said “[Mitch McConnell] has done some great things for our country.”
When asked to clarify where he disagrees with Mitch McConnell, O’Dea told 9News “There’s a lot of things that we probably do agree on. I’m a conservative.”
Said he “didn’t see anything in [the Inflation Reduction Act] that [he] like[d]” and spread GOP misinformation about the law.
Ditched the campaign trail to fundraise with MAGA Republicans and Mitch McConnell.
Supports Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ political stunt which involved deceiving and trafficking nearly 50 Venezuelan migrants to Martha’s Vineyard.
One of O’Dea’s top donors and fundraising hosts is an election fraud conspiracy theorist.
Climate and Public Lands:
Denies the scientific consensus on climate change and claims “there’s still a debate there still to be had” about the extent of human contribution to climate change.
Suggested that the climate was changing, but believed America should not pursue “urgent” action.
O’Dea on environmental regulations: “I would default to those people that know – oil and gas people.”
O’Dea opposed the CORE Act.
O’Dea didn’t expect America to transition away from fossil fuels in the “next 100 years.”
During the June 21, 2022, GOP primary debate, O’Dea stated that he was “not an advocate for subsidies” when asked for his thoughts on renewable subsidies.
Guns:
Said that “we don’t need more [gun control] laws.”
Opposed the bipartisan gun safety law that passed the Senate with 15 Republican votes.
Said he’s an “advocate” for the Second Amendment.
Backed by the NRA’s Colorado affiliate group.
Medicare and Social Security:
Affirmed that he would join MAGA Republicans in cutting funding for Social Security and Medicare, and other critical government agencies like the EPA and OSHA.
The bottom line: Joe O’Dea’s far-right record speaks for itself and Coloradans can’t trust O’Dea to be a voice for them in the Senate. He is way out of step with a majority of Coloradans on a wide range of issues and his desperate attempts of muddying his record only proves that he’ll say or do anything to get elected. Ultimately, he will give Mitch McConnell and national Republicans the majority they need to enact a dangerous MAGA agena that hurts Coloradans.
