“I VOTED FOR THAT” Joe O’Dea Says About 22 Week Abortion Ban Colorado Ballot Measure
O’Dea voted to ban abortion after 22 weeks, with no exceptions for victims of rape or incest
Today, the Colorado Sun reported Joe O’Dea voted for Proposition 115, the failed 2020 ballot measure that would have banned abortion in Colorado after 22 weeks of pregnancy, with no exceptions for victims of rape or incest, but was defeated 59% - 41%:
O’Dea announced his stance after he told The Sun on Thursday that he voted for an unsuccessful 2020 ballot measure that would have outlawed the procedure after 22 weeks of gestation, or 5.5 months.
“I voted for that,” O’Dea said in a brief interview after an event in Greenwood Village with U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, a Texas Republican.
O’Dea had refused until Friday to provide a specific date at which he thought abortions should be outlawed.
Colorado Democratic Party spokesperson Nico Delgado said, “Joe O’Dea’s vote to impose an abortion ban in Colorado and force women to keep pregnancies resulting from rape or incest puts him at odds with the majority of Colorado voters who support the right to choose, and proves he’d be a rubber stamp for far-right Republicans like Mitch McConnell who are working to ban abortion nationwide.”
O’Dea’s vote to impose an abortion ban in Colorado adds to his record of opposing abortion rights, including his endorsements from pro-life leaders who supported abortion bans, saying he would have voted for the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v Wade, and opposing the Colorado law protecting abortion rights.
The Colorado Democratic Party launched a website this week, https://joescrew.co/ to expose O’Dea’s record of standing with Trump, McConnell and the far-right in opposing abortion rights, and a video with Sen. Julie Gonzales and Rep. Meg Froelich holding O’Dea accountable for opposing their Reproductive Health Equity Act that protects abortion rights for Coloradans.
