Joe O’Dea Tanks National TV Interview Ahead of Election Day

O’Dea dodges questions on Trump, immigration, and guns with bogus claims

GOP Senate candidate Joe O’Dea appeared last night on CNN with Jake Tapper and flubbed his closing pitch to voters ahead of Election Day and dodged questions on Trump, immigration, and guns. While stumbling over questions, O’Dea managed to spread bogus claims which prove to Coloradans that he can’t be trusted in the Senate.

O’Dea dodged Tapper’s questions about why he would vote for Trump again if he were the GOP nominee in 2024 after Trump separated families at the border and O’Dea responded with a false claim about Obama’s policy. On immigration, O’Dea responded to a question about his support for Governor DeSantis’ use of asylum seekers for a political stunt with another false GOP talking point. On guns, O’Dea tried to justify his extreme position of opposing raising the age to buy a semi-automatic weapon by ignorantly comparing trained army enlistees to civilians.

O’Dea on Trump:
TAPPER: In that same debate, you ultimately said you would vote for Trump again, if he were the nominee. Did it bother you when Trump said “very good people on both sides” in Charlottesville? Did the family separation policy of the Trump administration, did that bother you?

O’DEA: Well, I believe Obama started that policy to be quite frank with you. But you know, at the end of the day… (FACT CHECK: NPR: Trump Wrongly States Obama Administration Had Child Separation Policy)

TAPPER: Not really.

O’Dea on immigration:

TAPPER: Do you think it was right for [DeSantis] to ship off migrants under false pretenses into other parts of the country? That part of it? Not just bringing attention to it, but that part of it? Was that the right thing to do?

O’DEA: Well, I know that President Biden’s shipping them all over the country right now on airplanes, nobody said a word. (FACT CHECK: Washington Post: The difference between DeSantis’s migrant flights and the Biden administration’s)

O’Dea on guns:

TAPPER: Yeah, but why should a 19-year old be able to buy a semi-automatic weapon when he can't even buy a beer or a handgun? That's my question.

O’DEA: Well, he can sign up and go into our military. So I just believe we don't need any more gun laws. What we need is more cops

TAPPER: I'm sure you know of all the training that enlistees undergo when it comes to how to use a firearm.
