Abortion Ban Supporter Joe O’Dea Wants to Bring “Balance to Women’s Rights”
O’Dea voted YES on Colorado’s no exceptions 22-week abortion ban
In a shocking development in the Colorado Senate race, GOP Senate candidate Joe O’Dea said the quiet part out loud and told 9News in an interview that he wants to go to the Senate to bring “balance to women’s rights.”
This comes after O’Dea’s recent admission of voting yes for Prop 115, a 2020 Colorado ballot measure that would’ve imposed a no exceptions 22-week abortion ban. O’Dea, who calls himself “pro-life,” also supports a nationwide ban on abortion, opposes Colorado’s law that guarantees the right to choose and called it “reckless,” and he would’ve voted to confirm all of the Supreme Court Justices nominated by Trump and George W. Bush, the majority of whom overturned Roe v. Wade.

CLARK: Republican Senate candidate Joe O'Dea has received national attention for saying that he would vote with Democrats to make Roe versus Wade, the law of the land. But now he says there are strings attached.
…
CLARK: things like protections for religious hospitals, a ban on federal funds for abortion and parental notification. O'Dea described it as bringing balance to women's rights.
O’DEA: Well, here's the deal. I'm going to the Senate to negotiate a good bill that brings balance to women's rights.
CLARK: Do you understand how some people might say that you got a lot of positive attention for saying that you would codify roe and now when push comes to shove, you want to attach all these other things to it.
O’DEA: I understand that, but that's the debate that we're going to have
CLARK: O'Dea prominently pledges that he will work with Democrats to move the country forward. But he could not name a single one of President Biden's priorities that he would break with his party to support.
O’DEA: I don't know of anything that's blocked right now that I could help him get done. But if it's good for Colorado, then I'm going to be there for him.
What they’re saying:
State Senator Julie Gonzales: “WE 👏🏽 TOLD 👏🏽 Y’ALL 👏🏽 Joe O’Dea cannot be trusted. He apparently believes that our rights to make decisions about our bodies are negotiable.”
State Representative Brianna Titone: “Joe ‘I'll say anything you want to hear to get elected’ O'Dea. Nothing clear about this guy. Don't trust him at all.”
State Representative Meg Froelich: “I guess if by bring ‘balance to Women’s rights’ you mean bring politicians into the Dr’s exam room … ‘please sir may I have my some more fundamental rights?’”
State Senator Jessie Danielson: “Joe O'Dea sees our rights as negotiable. He would proudly vote for far-Right SCOTUS justices like Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh & Coney Barrett.”
