MADDOW: Gardner “Bragging” About 5,000 Tests for Greeley JBS Plant, But Workers Never Got Tested

Denver, CO - Last night, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow covered Senator Cory Gardner “bragging” about working with President Trump to send 5,000 coronavirus tests to workers at Greeley’s JBS meatpacking plant, which a Channel 7 investigation found were not used to test all of its workers before the plant reopened.

“In Weld County Colorado, they’ve got one of the worst infection rates in the state in that county in part because of an outbreak of unknown size at a 6,000 person JBS meat plant. U.S. Senator in Colorado, Cory Gardner, has been bragging recently about his role in directing 5,000 tests to that plant once they realized they had a real problem there.

“Well 5,000 tests still wouldn’t be enough to test everybody who works at that plant. But in any case the plant did not even try to test all of its workers before reopening this past week. Already five people who work there are dead… But the plant is back up and running.”

Instead of standing up for the workers and ensuring the tests reached them and were administered, Gardner took a victory lap on his chummy relationship with the Trump administration while refusing to hold the White House accountable for its broken promises and failures.

Maddow’s report comes after the Colorado Times Recorder covered Gardner “boasting” to Republican activists that he worked with the White House to secure 5,000 coronavirus tests for Greeley’s JBS plant and help the plant reopen, despite broken promises to test the workers.
