Dems outraise GOP by nearly 6x in the first month of the critical 2024 election year

DENVER - The Colorado Democratic Party (CDP) announced raising $187,450.37 in January 2024, a significant haul in the first official month to kick off the 2024 election cycle. The CDP received contributions from 795 donors, 90 percent of them being Coloradans. CDP has invested resources towards growing staff and programs in key regions and positions in the Party, including Finance, Outreach, and Political organizing in rural Colorado. This investment sets the Democrats up for a successful 2024 election across the state.

In contrast, the Colorado GOP raised $32,535.47. The Colorado GOP also spent $49,681.40 total, including $11,000 on payments to Chair Dave Williams’ own consulting firm, Fox Group, and $15,000 to Liberty Service Corp, a far-right wing consulting firm, totaling 52 percent of its total spending.

The Colorado GOP’s wasteful spending is part of a trend continuing from 2023, which saw their Party spend $73,000 – its single largest pool of expenditures in 2023 – on legal fees, including on failed lawsuits to disenfranchise unaffiliated voters from Colorado primaries.

In 2023, the Colorado GOP’s abysmal fundraising led to a millionaire-funded bailout by Protect the House, disgraced former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s national joint fundraising committee. In a direct transfer of funds, Protect the House delivered $255,835 to the struggling Colorado GOP in November 2023. The Colorado GOP, failing to build a donor network, also held its presidential candidates hostage with five-figure ransoms in order to be placed on Colorado’s GOP primary ballot, formalizing a pay-to-play model of Colorado Republican politics.

“The Colorado GOP better hope for Kevin McCarthy to bail them out again, because it’s clear that they’re heading into 2024 in the weakest position the party’s ever been in,” said CDP Chair Shad Murib. “Colorado Democrats have invested resources across the state, and the Colorado GOP has been jumping up and down hoping Donald Trump notices them while Kevin McCarthy pays for it.”
