“This phenomenal group of leaders are a winning ticket for Colorado, and we’re delighted to be hitting the ground running with fantastic candidates focused on creating jobs, protecting our freedoms, and bringing the voice of their communities to government – not playing politics with our lives,” said Shad Murib Chair, Colorado Democratic Party. “The Republican Party is promising a dark vision for America where we have fewer freedoms, and one where everything we love about Colorado, from our outdoor spaces and world-class election system to our nation-leading gun safety & abortion laws and incredible economy will be put at risk. The Colorado Democratic Party’s vision is one of hope, prosperity, and taking care of each other. We’re Colorado through and through, and we look forward to a great primary season and big wins this November.”
"I take very seriously the trust that the Democratic voters put in me and thank them for their support. When I work in Congress on important issues like reproductive rights, healthcare access and climate change, I am carrying their voices with me." Said Representative Diana DeGette
“I’m honored to receive the Democratic Party’s nomination to represent the people of Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District. Representing our remarkable community in the United States Congress for the past five years has been a tremendous honor. Together, we've achieved meaningful progress for the people of our great state, but there is still much work to be done as we work to address the consequential challenges of our time. And as we prepare for the most consequential election of our lifetimes, I’ll continue to focus on what matters most — working collaboratively, finding common ground, and building hope in a brighter future for everyone in our community.” Said Representative Joe Neguse.
“I believe my background and experience make me uniquely qualified to take on this important role. The vote by the 2nd CD assembly was particularly meaningful as I believe deeply in public education. As part of my campaign, I have been able to reconnect with many of my friends and colleagues across the 2nd CD and return to schools, charter and non-charter, who have benefitted from my work on school finance. I am so grateful for their support and look forward to working together on this campaign.” Said Kathy Gebhardt, CD2 State Board of Education Nominee.
"At a time when extremist politicians are trying to play culture wars in our classrooms, I'm running to restore commonsense in our schools. Every kid deserves a great education that sets them up for a great life, no matter their zip code, and I look forward to being a strong voice for Western and Southern Colorado families," said Ellen Angeles, CD3 State Board of Education Nominee.
"The nomination as the Democratic candidate for the University of Colorado district 3 Regent, is a privilege, an honor, and responsibility that I take seriously. I look forward to serving the voters and their families as they consider the future of Colorado. Thank you for putting your faith in me as a qualified candidate for this elected position.” Said Robert Logan, CD3 CU Regent Nominee.
“I am incredibly grateful for the delegates who put us at the top of the ballot tonight, and to all organizers, delegates and workers across the Democratic Party. I have full faith that come June 25, voters will back this campaign because they want a representative, a fighter, and a champion for working families—not a complacent seatholder. Tonight I’m thinking about my father, who passed away shortly before I began this campaign in my childhood home here in Highlands Ranch. I was fortunate to be able to provide end-of-life care to both of my parents—a privilege a majority of Americans do not have. He may have been a Republican, but he was my first endorsement. Because like so many voters, he shares our values—economic opportunity, time with family, investments in community. I’ll be carrying his endorsement close to my heart as I take this campaign throughout the district in the coming weeks. It’s time to move forward and into a new chapter for Colorado and our country. It’s time to create economic opportunities for our families to live and work in the towns that raised them. And it starts with a vote—your vote. Together, we’re going to win this election in June and again in November to make sure Lauren Boebert stays far, far away from power in our CD4,” said Trisha Calvarese, CD4 Primary Candidate for Congress.
“I’m immensely honored to be chosen by CD-4 Democratic Delegates as a primary election nominee,” said John Padora, CD4 Primary Candidate for Congress. “My team and I are ready to leap into this next phase of the election with ferocity, and I know I can earn constituents' support and trust that I will be the best person to serve them in office. Regardless of who the general election opponent is, I will be ready to push back and show everyone in this district that the GOP does not have their interest at heart. It’s time for a new person who will push for progressive policies and fight for better social programs that benefit everyone.”
“There’s no more important work than supporting high quality public education for each and every student,” said Krista Holtzmann, CD4 State Board of Education Nominee.“I’m excited to continue my lifelong work of advocating for the best interests of children.”
“I’m grateful to the Colorado Democratic Party for trusting me to keep up the fight for our rights and freedoms in Congress,” said Representative Jason Crow. “This is a fight between those who want to take us back or move us forward. With your support, I will continue to move us forward and use my voice to protect abortion rights, combat gun violence, tackle the climate crisis, and safeguard our democracy.”
"It has been the greatest honor to serve as the Representative for the place I grew up and call home and the place that has given me every opportunity to build a better life," said Representative Brittany Pettersen. "The stakes could not be higher this election and I've seen firsthand the dysfunction we're up against in Congress. I'd like to thank everyone who put their faith in me today and promise that I'll never stop fighting to protect our democracy, the rights and freedoms of all Americans, fight against extremism, and do everything I can to give Coloradans a brighter future."
“Representing Colorado’s 8th Congressional District is the greatest honor of my life. I am deeply humbled and proud to have earned the nomination from Colorado Democrats for a second term in Congress,” stated Representative Yadira Caraveo, MD. “In just sixteen months, we’ve delivered for working families, channeling tens of millions of dollars in federal funds back to the Front Range and Northern Colorado. It’s a privilege to serve the community that raised me, and I look forward to ensuring that Colorado’s 8th district remains a beacon of Democratic values in 2024 and beyond.”
“I have been very proud to represent CD8 on the State Board of Education and I am honored to be running for re-election. Help me to continue fighting for public education!” said CD8 State Board of Education Member Rhonda Solis

As SCOTUS Hears Mifepristone Case, Colorado Democrats Slams Trump’s Efforts to Ban Abortion Nationwide
March 27, 2024
As the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments in a case that could ban medication abortion across the country and severely limit the access to critical reproductive care for millions of women, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib released the following statement:
DENVER - Today, the Colorado Democratic Party released the following statement highlighting what’s at stake for health care this November on the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act:
“Today's Supreme Court hearing is a stark reminder that Donald Trump and his MAGA allies are using every avenue possible to ban abortion nationwide and devastate Colorado women’s reproductive freedom. This case could strip away access to medication abortion everywhere in this country, including Colorado, which would be the biggest step toward their extreme goal since Trump overturned Roe v. Wade. Coloradans know that reproductive rights are on the ballot in November, and the only way to protect Colorado women’s freedoms is to send President Biden and Vice President Harris back to the White House.”
While Trump and MAGA Republicans are working to ban abortion access nationwide, President Biden and Vice President Harris will protect a woman’s right to choose:
Calling on Congress to codify the protections of Roe into law, restoring rights women relied on for nearly 50 years.
Standing by the FDA’s evidence-based approval of mifepristone — and the Biden-Harris administration will continue to defend the FDA’s independent, expert authority to review, approve, and regulate a wide range of prescription drugs.
Fighting to ensure access to emergency medical care.
Strengthening patient privacy and access to contraception.
Supporting a woman’s right to travel for medical care.
Promising to veto a national abortion ban.
Colorado GOP Spends $4,000 on Pasta While Colorado Democrats Raise Over $142,000 and Invest in Organizing
March 21, 2024
CDP outraises Colorado GOP by 221%
DENVER - The Colorado Democratic Party (CDP) continues the 2024 election cycle with strength, announcing $142,141.77 raised in February, 2024, compared to the Colorado GOP’s $64,349.90. The CDP outraised the Colorado GOP by $77,791.97.
In February, the CDP received contributions from a diverse array of 726 donors, with 93% of them proudly hailing from Colorado. This groundswell of grassroots support underscores the deep connections and trust that the Democratic Party has cultivated within our communities across the state.
With these funds, the CDP remains steadfast in its commitment to investing in vital resources, bolstering key staff, and expanding critical programs throughout Colorado. Our focus on enhancing our organizing apparatus in rural areas ensures that every voice in Colorado is heard and represented.
In stark contrast, the Colorado GOP's fundraising efforts fell far short. The GOP’s spending habits continue to raise eyebrows, with a notable $12,000 allocated to Chair Dave Williams’ consulting firm, Fox Group, and $10,000 to Liberty Service Corp, a far-right wing consulting firm. Spending on these two consulting firms amounts to 35% of the Colorado GOP’s total expenditures, an insulting and bewildering use of funds in this critical election year.
According to the FEC, the Colorado GOP also spent $9,866.23 on a “fold out mailer” as a “response to attack” – this is likely the mailer that was used to attack The Gazette and Dave Williams’ opponents in the CD5 Republican primary, a ridiculous and unethical use of Party resources.
This trend of irresponsible spending by the Colorado GOP is nothing new, as evidenced by their squandering of funds on legal fees and failed attempts to disenfranchise voters in 2023. Their reliance on external bailouts and pay-to-play tactics highlights the party's dire financial situation and lack of grassroots support.
"The Colorado GOP's continued struggles with fundraising and reckless spending underscore their dwindling relevance in Colorado politics," said CDP Chair Shad Murib. "While the GOP relies on divisive tactics and racking up strangely high bills at Italian restaurants, Colorado Democrats remain focused on empowering our communities and building a brighter future for everyone in our state no matter their party. I’m proud of our grassroots support, and we’re excited to be building lasting infrastructure across the state.”
On ACA Anniversary, Colorado Democrats Slam Trump’s Attacks on Health Care
March 23, 2024
CDP Chair Shad Murib, fmr. Rep. Betsy Markey, Rep. Yadira Caraveo, Rep. Diana DeGette highlight the need to support the ACA – not rip health coverage away from Coloradans
DENVER - Today, the Colorado Democratic Party released the following statement highlighting what’s at stake for health care this November on the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act:
“Millions of Americans have relied on the Affordable Care Act for the health care coverage they need for 14 years now – but if Donald Trump gets another term, he promises to gut Colorado families’ access to critical care. Trump was only one vote away from repealing the ACA when he was in office, and he wants to finish the job. Coloradans with preexisting conditions could lose protections, prescription drug costs and premiums would go through the roof, and people would lose insurance,” said Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib. “The choice this November is between President Biden, who has fought to lower costs for Colorado families and expand access to health care, and Donald Trump, who is campaigning on ripping health coverage away from Coloradans. The stakes couldn’t be higher or more expensive for working families.
“As a physician, I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact the Affordable Care Act has had on healthcare access for working families here in Colorado,” said Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, MD. “Fourteen years since its inception, the importance of the ACA is as clear as ever. While the idea of excluding Americans from healthcare coverage based on gender or pre-existing conditions may seem outrageous, it was not long ago that Colordans were denied coverage for those very reasons. While Republican threats to Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act remain, I’m committed to defending these bedrock healthcare laws and ensuring that Colordans across the board have access to the healthcare they need.”
“President Lincoln once said to the Congress “We are not bound to win but we are bound to be true.” While not a popular vote in my district at the time. I was honored to vote for the ACA, which has helped millions of Americans afford health insurance.” Said Congresswoman Betsy Markey.
"As we celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, it's vital to recognize its profound impact on so many lives, providing a crucial safety net for millions of Americans. However, the future of the ACA is under threat if Donald Trump is reelected. That is why we must stand united to elect Joe Biden, who, as President, has worked to decrease prescription drug expenses, setting a $35 monthly cap on insulin for seniors, lowered premiums, saving people $800 per year, and has fought to protect and strengthen Medicare and expand access to mental health care. On this anniversary of the ACA, let's recommit to the fight for equitable healthcare access for all and reject any attempts to roll back the progress we have made." Said Congresswoman Diana Degette
Donald Trump is promising to repeal the Affordable Care Act and gut Colorado’s health care. If he gets the chance, Trump’s plans would:
Threaten health care protections for as many as 100 million Americans with preexisting conditions like cancer, asthma, and diabetes;
Raise premiums and health care costs by thousands of dollars a year for millions of Americans; 151,000 Coloradans will see higher premiums.
Raise seniors’ prescription drug costs by hundreds of dollars per year;
Jeopardize free preventive care like cancer screenings, annual check-ups, and cholesterol tests for 150 million Americans;
Cause uninsurance rates for communities of color to skyrocket;
Kick millions of young people off their parents’ coverage;
And take away access to mental health care or substance use treatment for millions.

The rules and function of the Special Convention are outlined on the Colorado Democratic Party’s website at this link.
The CD4 Special Convention will be held virtually over Zoom and streamed live for the public on YouTube. “Eastern Colorado deserves to have strong representation in Congress, something it’s suffered a drought of during Ken Buck’s tenure. Buck, an architect of the extremist wing of the Republican Party, has spent most of his career planning his next Sunday show appearance rather than getting things done. This is an opportunity for a fresh start and the state will be better off for it,” said Shad Murib, Chair, Colorado Democratic Party.
“We believe in making sure the economy is fair for everyone, not just folks on the Front Range. For too long, Ken Buck and the Republican Party have catered more to what the Washington D.C. power brokers want all while leaving our farmers, ranchers, and teachers behind and voiceless. We look forward to giving voters a real choice not just in this Special Election but also in November,” said Lisa Chollet, CD4 Chair, Colorado Democratic Party.

Colorado Democratic Party Statement on President Joe Biden’s Victory in Colorado’s Democratic Presidential Primary
March 5th, 2024
DENVER – Today, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib, 1st Vice Chair Indira Duggirala, and 2nd Vice Chair Scott Mangino released the following statements on President Joe Biden’s victory in Colorado’s Democratic Primary:
“Today, Colorado voters once again displayed that we are energized and ready to send President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris back to the White House. Thanks to President Biden, Space Command will continue to call Colorado Springs its home, thousands of jobs have been created in rural and metropolitan areas alike, and inflation is down. Donald Trump doesn’t just take credit for the failures of his administration – he’s promising to double down on overturning Roe v. Wade, putting his politics ahead of our national security, and doing even more harm to our public lands. With so much at stake, Coloradans are ready to reject Donald Trump’s agenda once again and reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris this November,” said Shad Murib, Colorado Democratic Party Chair.
"Congratulations to President Biden on his decisive victory in the Colorado Democratic primary. His triumph signifies a rejection of the dark path promised by Trump—a path of endangering abortion rights, expanding his anti-immigrant and anti-refugee policies, and prioritizing irresponsible big corporations over the well-being of our community. Tonight, communities across Colorado came together to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as we prepare to defeat Donald Trump yet again,” said Indira Duggirala, Colorado Democratic Party 1st Vice Chair
"President Biden's victory in the Colorado Democratic primary is a recommitment to our fight for justice. It's a rejection of Trump's vision of a future marred by threats to abortion rights, a disregard for the rule of law, and favoritism towards profit-driven corporations at the expense of Coloradans. Today, we embrace a future where our values shine brighter than ever. We’re looking forward to building an even bigger coalition that rejects Trump’s MAGA values once and for all,” said Scott Mangino, Colorado Democratic Party 2nd Vice Chair.
Colorado Democratic Party Chair’s Statement on Today’s Decision by the Supreme Court
March 4th, 2024
DENVER – Today, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib released the following statement in reaction to the decision by the Supreme Court regarding Trump v. Anderson:
“Coloradans believe no president is above the law. We’ve been preparing to defeat Donald Trump and his allies this fall by putting organizers on the ground everywhere across Colorado earlier than ever and earning votes. Meanwhile, Colorado Republican leadership is pocketing hard-earned donor money and filing lawsuits to disenfranchise unaffiliated voters. The difference couldn’t be clearer, and we’re confident that voters will agree this fall.”
Democratic Leaders Unveil President Joe Biden’s Portrait at State Capitol
March 1st, 2024
DENVER – Today, Governor Polis, Senate President Steve Fenberg, House Speaker Julie McCluskie, and Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib unveiled Kirsten Savage’s portrait of President Joe Biden that will be permanently displayed in the Colorado State Capitol.
“I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this historic unveiling. With the help of Governor Polis and our federal delegation, President Biden has kept Space Command in Colorado Springs, created thousands of jobs in our state, and designated Camp Hale a national monument. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate these accomplishments than by unveiling this amazing portrait,” said Chair Shad Murib.
“Today, with the unveiling of President Biden’s portrait in Colorado’s Capitol, we are continuing a long tradition in our state. I have seen President Biden’s leadership firsthand, and he shares our goals of making Colorado, and our country, a better place now and for future generations. It was an honor to unveil his portrait today,” said Governor Jared Polis.
“President Biden’s portrait will now join those of his predecessors in the Colorado Capitol. Over the past three years, this Administration and Colorado’s federal delegation have passed critical legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and the state stimulus package, which are helping Colorado build more housing, expand broadband, increase access to behavioral health, and save people money on health care. From my community on the Western Slope to towns and cities all across Colorado, the successes are far and wide and are addressing the most pressing issues we face,” said Speaker McCluskie.
“The gallery of presidential portraits in our state Capitol building stands as a reminder of the story of our country’s past,” said Senate President Steve Fenberg, D-Boulder. “With the addition of President Biden’s portrait, we are marking a new chapter in the story of our country’s history. Traditions like these add to the reverence of this building and make the Colorado Capitol a place I am proud to work in day after day.”

241,800 jobs have been created in Colorado under the Biden Administration, including 2,700 jobs in clean energy.
Coloradoans have submitted 362,100 applications to start new businesses.
3,500 childcare programs were kept open because of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
1,800 restaurants and bars have been kept open under President Biden’s leadership.
LOWERING COSTS
$140.4 million in home energy rebates to help hardworking families cut their energy costs by weatherizing their homes and replacing old appliances with more efficient models.
961,600 seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries will save money on prescription drug costs because of President Biden’s $2,000 yearly cap on out-of-pocket prescription drug costs, a $35 monthly cap per insulin prescription, free vaccines, inflation rebates, and a drug price negotiation program.
199.4K individuals in Colorado signed up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act Marketplaces during the Open Enrollment Period for 2023 and will benefit from average savings of about $800/year from lower health care premiums because of the Inflation Reduction Act and American Rescue Plan.
GENERAL TALKING POINTS ON ACCOMPLISHMENTS
REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM
President Biden strongly supports a woman’s right to choose and has taken action to protect access to care:
President Biden has called on Congress to codify the protections of Roe into federal law, restoring rights women relied on for nearly fifty years.
The Biden-Harris administration is working to protect access to reproductive health care and safeguard patient privacy amid ongoing Republican attacks, including:
Defending FDA approval of medication abortion
Fighting for women’s access to emergency medical care
Strengthening access to contraception
And if Congress passes a national abortion ban, President Biden has promised to veto it.
There is no question that reproductive freedom is on the ballot in November, and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the only candidates who stand up for women’s rights to make their own health care decisions.
ECONOMY
Three years in a row of strong economic growth under President Biden
The economy grew 3.1% last year – beating forecasts of a recession and stronger than during the Trump Administration.
2.7 million jobs created last year, for a total of 14.3 million jobs created under President Biden.
Personal finances are strong, with consumer spending and wages up over the last year.
Manufacturing is booming: highest manufacturing construction investment on record.
Inflation continues to fall – core inflation fell to pre-pandemic level of 2% over the last 6 months.
President Biden has helped grow the economy from the middle out and the bottom up–and Americans are feeling the results.
The work is not done. President Biden and Congressional Democrats are fighting every day to lower costs:
Taking on Big Pharma to lower prescription drug costs and cap insulin at $35 a month.
Saving 15 million Americans $800 a year on health insurance.
Cracking down on price gouging by banning hidden junk fees and calling on corporations to pass savings on to consumers.
CLIMATE
The Biden-Harris Administration:
Signed into law the largest climate investment in history, the Inflation Reduction Act, which has already created 210,000 new jobs across nearly every state and attracted more than $200 billion in private clean energy investments, while putting the U.S. on a path to meet our climate goals and reach 80% clean energy by 2030 – in addition to securing the American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and CHIPS and Science Act
Advancing the most ambitious environmental justice agenda in history, including by signing a historic Executive Order that calls on the federal government to bring clean energy and health environments to all and mitigate harm to those who have suffered from toxic pollution and other environmental burdens like climate change.
Protected 26 million acres of lands and waters – on track to conserve more lands and waters than any president in history.
Canceled remaining oil and gas leases issued by the previous administration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and proposed protections for more than 13 million acres in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, and withdrew approximately 2.8 million acres of the Beaufort Sea, ensuring the entire United States Arctic Ocean is off limits to new oil and gas leasing
Signed an executive order that sets an ambitious target to make half of all new vehicles sold in 2030 zero-emissions, while proposing strongest-ever limits on tail pipe emissions and issuing fuel economy standards.
Families Are Losing Access to IVF Because of Donald Trump
February 23rd, 2024
Today, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib released the following statement on the Alabama Supreme Court ruling restricting access to IVF, a direct result of Trump’s MAGA, anti-freedom agenda:
“As Coloradans watch families in Alabama lose access to IVF in horror, there is one person responsible: Donald Trump. Make no mistake: Trump is responsible for all the chaos and the cruelty playing out as his attacks on reproductive rights rip away even more freedoms from women across the country. If they get the chance again, Trump and his MAGA allies will force their extreme agenda onto families in Colorado and nationwide. The future of our hard-won rights hangs in the balance in November, but time and time again coloradans have made it clear: They won’t stand for Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans’ anti-freedom agenda, and they’re ready to reject it again in November.
Because of Donald Trump’s role in overturning Roe v. Wade, multiple fertility clinics in Alabama have cut off families’ access to IVF services. Donald Trump wants to take his anti-freedom agenda nationwide:
Trump has bragged about restricting the reproductive freedom of millions of women, saying proudly that “I'm the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade.”
Mere days before the ruling, new reporting revealed Trump’s plans for a national abortion ban that would rip abortion rights from even more women across America.
Trump has long supported a nationwide abortion ban, even saying in a speech to his MAGA supporters that “there of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it’s very important.”
Trump has even gone so far as to call for punishing women who have abortions.
Trump has claimed credit for every extreme abortion ban passed thanks to his role in overturning Roe v. Wade, and said he was ‘proud’ to have terminated abortion rights.
And Trump’s close allies have plans to effectively ban abortion nationwide without the help of Congress. Trump’s allies could even attempt to prosecute doctors and patients for sending or receiving abortion medication in the mail.
According to a poll conducted by the firm of Trump’s own longtime advisor, 86% of voters support IVF.
Trump appointed an anti-IVF judge to a lifetime federal judicial appointment. He even added her to a list of potential Supreme Court picks.
The Trump administration proposed a rule that would have allowed health care workers to refuse IVF to women who were single, LGBTQ+ or in an interfaith relationship.
Trump’s White House and campaign hosted the Alabama Supreme Court chief justice who ruled to restrict access to IVF.
Trump’s Supreme Court appointee Amy Coney Barrett supported calls to protect life from fertilization and refused to answer questions about criminalizing IVF.
Trump and his extremist allies are already laying out plans for a nationwide abortion ban, attacks on same-sex marriage, and restrictions on contraception.
MAGA Colorado Republicans Abandon Border Security and Our Allies To Go on Vacation
February 21st, 2024
After Donald Trump ordered them to kill bipartisan legislation that would secure our border and support our allies abroad, Ken Buck, Lauren Boebert and Doug Lamborn and MAGA House Republicans are taking a two-week vacation.
“Ken Buck, Lauren Boebert and Doug Lamborn and Colorado Republicans would rather take a two-week vacation than secure our border and support our allies because actually solving the issues coloradans care about wouldn’t be politically helpful to Donald Trump’s selfish interests,” Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib said. “Let’s be clear: Lauren Boebert and House Republicans are bowing to Vladimir Putin and refusing to take action to improve border security because Trump said so. Colorado voters are taking note of the contrast as President Biden keeps working to fix our country's broken immigration system and support our allies abroad in spite of the GOP’s shameful failures to act.”
Colorado Democratic Party announces $187,450.37 January fundraising haul
February 21st, 2024
Dems outraise GOP by nearly 6x in the first month of the critical 2024 election year
DENVER - The Colorado Democratic Party (CDP) announced raising $187,450.37 in January 2024, a significant haul in the first official month to kick off the 2024 election cycle. The CDP received contributions from 795 donors, 90 percent of them being Coloradans. CDP has invested resources towards growing staff and programs in key regions and positions in the Party, including Finance, Outreach, and Political organizing in rural Colorado. This investment sets the Democrats up for a successful 2024 election across the state.
In contrast, the Colorado GOP raised $32,535.47. The Colorado GOP also spent $49,681.40 total, including $11,000 on payments to Chair Dave Williams’ own consulting firm, Fox Group, and $15,000 to Liberty Service Corp, a far-right wing consulting firm, totaling 52 percent of its total spending.
The Colorado GOP’s wasteful spending is part of a trend continuing from 2023, which saw their Party spend $73,000 – its single largest pool of expenditures in 2023 – on legal fees, including on failed lawsuits to disenfranchise unaffiliated voters from Colorado primaries.
In 2023, the Colorado GOP’s abysmal fundraising led to a millionaire-funded bailout by Protect the House, disgraced former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s national joint fundraising committee. In a direct transfer of funds, Protect the House delivered $255,835 to the struggling Colorado GOP in November 2023. The Colorado GOP, failing to build a donor network, also held its presidential candidates hostage with five-figure ransoms in order to be placed on Colorado’s GOP primary ballot, formalizing a pay-to-play model of Colorado Republican politics.
“The Colorado GOP better hope for Kevin McCarthy to bail them out again, because it’s clear that they’re heading into 2024 in the weakest position the party’s ever been in,” said CDP Chair Shad Murib. “Colorado Democrats have invested resources across the state, and the Colorado GOP has been jumping up and down hoping Donald Trump notices them while Kevin McCarthy pays for it.”

Congratulations to Julia Marvin on being selected by the members of the House District 31 Vacancy Committee to fill the vacancy created by Representative Said Sharbini’s resignation.

“Congratulations to Julia Marvin for being chosen to represent House District 31. This is going to be an incredibly important legislative session in our work to cut the cost of living, create jobs, and fully fund our schools. This event serves as a pivotal moment for Colorado Democrats to unite, engage in the democratic process, and help shape the future of our nation.
Key Dates for Quick Reference:
The first step in the caucus process is for Democrats or interested voters not currently registered with the Democratic Party to register with the Party by February 12, 2024. Following Colorado’s presidential primary on March 5, 2024, Super Tuesday, the county caucuses will be scheduled to occur between March 5th and March 9th, 2024.
County precinct caucuses provide individuals with the opportunity to run as delegates for their preferred state candidates, and as national delegates who will nominate the Democratic presidential candidate at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago during the week of August 19th, 2024. Detailed information on the dates, locations, and procedures for county precinct caucuses will be regularly updated on the Colorado Democratic Party’s website as the schedule is finalized.
Following the county precinct caucuses, delegates emerging from these caucuses will proceed to county assemblies and conventions, Congressional District assemblies and conventions, State House, State Senate, and Judicial District assemblies, and ultimately, the State Assembly & Convention. The dates of these events are listed in the table included in this release based on which path they choose.
Colorado Democrats will have 87 national delegates representing our state at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
The breakdown of those delegates is as follows:
47 national delegates chosen at the Congressional District conventions
16 At-Large national delegates elected by the 2,000 state convention delegates
6 alternates for these delegates will also be elected

Furthermore, individuals have the unique chance to run for one of three available positions representing Colorado at the Democratic National Committee (DNC). The DNC plays a pivotal role in shaping the Democratic Party's policies and strategies. Those passionate about the direction of the party and the nation are encouraged to consider running for this influential position.
Statements of candidacy forms for all elected national delegates, as well as for DNC member candidates, can be accessed on the Colorado Democratic Party's website starting January 8th, 2024, and are due to the party by March 18th, 2024.
One notable feature of the State Assembly & Convention is the virtual format, which promotes broader participation from every corner of the state. This inclusivity ensures that every Colorado Democrat, regardless of location, can have their say in shaping the Democratic Party's future and the future of our nation.
A fully virtual assembly and convention creates equity in this process by:
Eliminating the “rural tax” of participation such as hotel rooms, bad weather, gas, and time off from work — difficult challenges and expenses intensely leveraged on Democrats in rural areas to participate.
Providing access for Coloradans of all abilities to participate in the same way,
Allowing working folks to participate without having to take additional time off.
Encouraging youth participation.
Counties may administer their conventions and assemblies virtually, in-person, or hybrid.

STATEMENT: CDP Chair Shad Murib and El Paso County Chair Mischa Smith on Doug Lamborn’s Retirement
January 5th, 2024
Denver - Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib and El Paso County Chair Mischa Smith released the following statements regarding Doug Lamborn’s retirement from Congress:
“Doug Lamborn was an architect of the MAGA far-right movement we’re seeing breed division in this country, and it’s good for Colorado that he’s retiring. Not only was he a disappointment to Colorado Springs and El Paso County, but it’s clear he was a disappointment to the Republican Party as a whole. We look forward to continuing the fight to elect someone who puts El Paso County first,” said CDP Chair, Shad Murib.
Mischa Smith, Chair of the El Paso County Democrats, stated with conviction, “Doug Lamborn's decision to not seek re-election is a clear indicator of the failed leadership that has plagued our district. His prioritization of the corrupt agenda of a former MAGA president over the needs of his own constituents, especially with the proposed relocation of Space Command, is nothing short of a betrayal. This reckless move threatened our local economy and national security, and it was the Democrats who stepped in to right this wrong. What kind of congressman gambles with the livelihoods of his own people for political gain? This is not just a failure; it's a glaring example of misplaced priorities. We, the El Paso County Democrats, are dedicated to ensuring that our community never again bears the cost of such irresponsible leadership. We are committed to serving the real needs of our constituents with integrity, responsibility, and a relentless pursuit of what is right for our district.”
STATEMENT: CDP Chair Shad Murib on Lauren Boebert’s Cowardice
December 27th, 2023
Denver - Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib released the following statement following Lauren Boebert’s cowardly announcement that she will run in Colorado’s 4th District and abandon her constituents in Western and Southern Colorado:
“Lauren Boebert can run, but she can’t hide. The good people of Western and Southern Colorado didn’t wait for an election to beat Lauren Boebert — we scared her straight and chased her out of her own district. With this carpet bagging move, Lauren Boebert has shown herself to be everything she claims she isn’t: a typical swampy politician looking for a reason to call Washington D.C. home. She’s a loser in CD3, and she’ll be a loser in CD4 — Coloradans won’t buy her bullshit in 2024.”
“Colorado Democrats launched The 546 Project, our unprecedented year-round campaign in Western and Southern Colorado, to make sure that rural Colorado is represented by someone committed to protecting our outdoor spaces, expanding health care, and treating people right – not hurting our farmers and ranchers with bad policies and foolish trade wars, or selling our public lands off to the highest bidders. We look forward to this fight.”
